Large landformed hills laid with forest floor, junipers brought from Germany, a pond with a finished artificial beach and a field of ornamental grasses.

By the time work on the project began, the main house was already on the site – a single-story volume of glued laminated timber with large panoramic windows.

Such closeness to the ground, if handled poorly, reduces the privacy of the house and the beauty of the view, but we saw this starting point as a challenge to create a landscape that would delight down to the last millimeter.

Site terrain

We also treated the site’s pronounced, challenging terrain as an advantage: we placed the guest house in a low point of the plot, all but “dissolving” it when viewed from the main house.

Геопластика

Landforming helped to further emphasize and amplify the natural terrain: the built hills became a display space for groups of perennials, centered on junipers brought from Germany. This created a dynamic view from the windows and screened the glazed rooms from view from outside.

Zoning

Besides the green hills, the project includes two more picturesque locations: a pond with an artificial beach adjoining the children’s playground, and a glade of ornamental grasses. This combination brings visual variety, connects the private and open zones of the site, organically ties together activities of different character and creates a range of moods across the grounds.
