“Algorithm” Garden

The main task was to expand the boundaries of the space and keep the garden’s zones from overlapping visually. To achieve this, we used functional zoning and landforming techniques. Plants for the flower beds were selected to display different colors throughout the season.

An interesting decision in the choice of paving style — natural stone with no clear boundaries, over which the greenery seems to hang.

The garden is designed in the “New Wave” style — a movement founded by the Dutch landscape architect Piet Oudolf, which reached English private gardens only after 2010. The project uses a wealth of low-maintenance perennials, selected for continuous flowering. In addition, at the client’s request, we chose plants with a southern character that establish well in our climate.

The facade of the house is adorned with ornamental vines, dissolving the house into the greenery as much as possible and creating a single architectural and landscape composition.

This project is a demonstration of a purely architectural approach to landscape design.

The composition is built on simple geometric figures – three circles.
The first is a pond, crossed by a bridge hovering just above the water. The second is the plane of the lawn, rising gently in level away from the house. The third is the planting set on landforming, behind which lies the poolside lounge area. The lighting was chosen to highlight the key design decisions.
