The beauty of northern nature lies in restrained colors, the stern silhouettes of the rocky terrain and an incredible wealth of flora and fauna.

The inspiration for the northern garden was Karelia – a vivid example of boundless northern beauty, close to our hearts.

The project is conceived to complete the transition from the man-made to the natural that the architecture set in motion.

Zoning

The house opens through an expansive terrace with a pool and a fire pit area onto the green zones, which include both flat and sculpted terrain.

Materials

The rocky terrain of Karelia is echoed in the choice of paving materials, the boulders and the subtle diversity of herbaceous perennials and conifers. The garden’s zones, each different in character, are linked by bands of granite. These set a polygonal geometry that organizes the composition of the garden and accentuates the relief. The granite bands also serve as the edges of the landforming across the open meadow.

Polygonal figures

Polygonal figures of a deer and a bear carry the geometry of the site’s division from the plane of the ground into three dimensions, reinforce the association with northern nature and add vibrancy to the site.
